What is football?
Football needs one ball and two things to mark a goal with, which is why it is the world's game. Eleven-a-side on grass is the televised version; the one your crew plays is five-to-seven a side on a booked turf, where every mistake is public and every nutmeg is remembered for years.
Small-sided football is its own sport in feel: constant involvement, no hiding position, rolling subs, and scorelines that look like basketball if the keepers are having a bad night.
Common rules
How it's played.
- No hands - except the goalkeeper inside their own box, and throw-ins from the touchline.
- A goal counts when the whole ball crosses the whole line between the posts.
- Fouls give a free kick; a foul in the box is a penalty. Turf convention: no slide tackles at all.
- Offside applies on full pitches; small-sided games near-universally waive it.
- Ball out over the side: throw-in (or kick-in on most turfs). Over the byline: goal kick or corner.

How it's counted.
- One goal, one point on the board; there is no other way to score.
- Draws stand in league play; knockouts go to extra time and penalties - or first-goal-wins on a turf with the next booking waiting.
- Own goals count for the opponent and follow you to the group chat.

The booked-turf default: small goals, no offside, rolling subs, and fitness exposed within ten minutes.
7-a-side
The compromise format - enough pitch for real positions, small enough that everyone still touches the ball.
11-a-side
The full game: offside, set pieces, and an actual referee. Weekend-league territory.
