What is volleyball?
Volleyball is rhythm made competitive: bump, set, spike, three touches maximum, and the ball never allowed to rest. The net turns gravity into the opponent - everything you do is about buying your hitter half a second above it.
It scales beautifully down from the arena: a net across a society lawn or a beach and you have a game where rotation rules mean everyone serves, everyone defends, and nobody hides.
Common rules
How it's played.
- Each side gets at most three touches to return the ball; no player touches it twice in a row (a block doesn't count).
- Rally starts with a serve from behind the baseline; the receiving side earns the right to rotate and serve by winning the rally.
- Players rotate one position clockwise every time their side wins back the serve.
- The ball is played, never caught or thrown; a lift or double-contact is a fault.
- Touching the net during play, or crossing fully under it, loses the rally.

- Rally scoring: every rally is a point, serving or receiving.
- Sets go to 25, win by 2, with no cap; matches are best of 5 with the decider to 15.
- Beach plays sets to 21 (decider 15), win by 2.
